Hand-pounded chilli pastes and Peranakan condiments
Browse

Fresh red chilli, toasted belacan, lime. The one you eat with everything.
Slow-fried chilli paste with shallot, tamarind and a little gula melaka. Medium heat.
Green chilli and calamansi, brighter and sharper. Excellent with grilled fish.
Fermented soybean stands in for belacan. Same depth, no seafood.
Our base spice paste — lemongrass, galangal, turmeric, candlenut. Fry it and you're most of the way to a curry.
Crunchy pickled vegetables with peanut and sesame. Cuts through anything rich.
Egg, coconut and pandan, stirred over a double boiler for two hours. Nothing else.
Sambal belacan, sambal tumis, achar and kaya in a boxed set with a wooden spoon.
We pound our rempah in a granite mortar, not a blender — it bruises the aromatics instead of shredding them, and you can taste the difference. Small batches, cooked down slowly in a wok, bottled hot and sealed. Nothing in the jar but what's on the label.

How long does a jar keep?
Unopened, 6 months in the cupboard. Once opened, keep it in the fridge and use a dry spoon — it'll last about 6 weeks.
How spicy is it?
Sambal belacan is genuinely hot. Sambal tumis is medium. Achar and kaya aren't spicy at all.
Is there shrimp paste in everything?
No — the vegetarian sambal uses fermented soybean instead, and the kaya and achar have none.
Can I order a big batch for gifts?
Yes. 12 jars and up gets custom labels and a gift box at no extra charge.
